SANABI was one of those games I started expecting a solid action experience and ended up emotionally wrecked.
The gameplay feels fantastic once you get into the flow. Swinging through the world with the mechanical arm gives you an incredible sense of speed and control, while the pixel art and soundtrack make the whole experience even better.
But what really made the game work for me was Mari. She’s an incredibly well-written character from beginning to end. At first, she feels like a bit of lighthearted relief in an otherwise heavy world, but little by little she gains depth, importance, and a genuine presence in the story. Her relationship with the protagonist is the heart of the game, and once everything starts falling into place, you realize just how much every conversation and every moment with her mattered.
Just play this game. Seriously. It’s short, intense, stylish, and tells a story that stays with you long after the credits roll. I finished it with that rare feeling of having experienced something truly special.
A genuine indie masterpiece.
