Glow of Honeydew is a short, hour long kinetic novel that completely caught me off guard. At first glance, the art style is undeniably cute, and the main character comes across as incredibly relatable and a bit goofy. However, the narrative quickly unfolds into something much more haunting and emotionally heavy.
This is a deeply grounded, unsettling character study wrapped in mystery and symbolism. While it features a couple of intimate scenes and touches heavily on themes of sex work, it’s crucial to understand that this is by no means a porn game. Instead, it’s a raw and melancholic look at flawed people Tels and Kit are written so authentically that they feel like individuals you might actually know in real life, struggling through a vicious cycle.
The gorgeous aesthetic presentation is elevated by a phenomenal soundtrack that perfectly captures the game's melancholic vibe. Be warned: if you're looking for a traditional happy ending, you won't find it here. The conclusion is deeply sad and leaves a lasting impact that will stick with you for days.
Even if yuri isn't your usual genre, this is a beautifully written and unforgettable experience that is absolutely worth your time. (Also, make sure to grab the free artbook DLC after you roll the credits the developer commentary adds a lot of great context to the story!)
